Internet in a cell phone was a service created not so long ago. Around the year 1999, a system called I – mode was been developed in Japan, a system which promised basic internet navigation and required using special pages which were compatible with the system.
At the time, the services was considered as a novelty and very avant-garde with the new technologies regarding others that were offered in the market, but right after that, a service that was very much alike I – mode was released.
This service was called WAP and it presented some differences in the way it interacted with the server; this new technology provided cell phone users the power to navigate in the internet without difficulties, watch the most recent news and been able to send and receive e – mails.
This WAP service stayed as a worldwide standard when sending data through wireless nets, thanks to that, there was no more the need of having a desktop computer for been able to get quick, immediate an opportune access to the internet when moving.
Regarding the security of this protocol, it was also vulnerable to viruses, which very much alike the ones in the PCs, but they were specially designed for the WAP service. After some virus attacks to cell phones, companies in charge of creating antivirus software for computers, designed antivirus software for cell phones, this could also be updated directly with the last antivirus resources.
The security content in cell phones has not been mentioned in the world, because the companies that develop cell phones are very careful regarding their security matters.
However, a negative aspect regarding the WAP service is that it did not have support to see images in the internet, which is why several modifications were created for this services, as well as new protocols, which encouraged the creation of a new system called GSM, created by Europeans and most known as 2G. This service includes compatibility with the already known I – mode and WAP systems.
It also allows you to chat, send faxes and it offers a PC remote service. Especially now, when it has evolved to 3G, offering a greater capacity regarding data sending, because it has a wider broadband, which allows internet navigation to be much faster and dynamic. These new advantages come with new services for users, because the technology evolves according to the new user requirements or anything required for the media.
For the future of the information via cell phone, it will evolve to 4G, which will offer even more information sending and downloading speed. The service will be entirely in the IP, it will also provide speeds of up to 100 Mbps in movements and statically, it will reach up to 1 Gbps. In Japan the respective trial tests have already been made, but many think that this technology is far from been launched in the short term, because it still needs to be compatible with some standards and create improvements in the services provided in the 3G, it will be a challenge to culminate the project before 2012.
