Hot Spots are Wi-Fi coverage points, in which the internet signal is sent through radio waves instead of the conventional cables that required been plugged into the computer. This technology is from the company Wi-Fi – Alliance; this organization fulfills the established 802.11 standards, which were born according to the Nokia and Symbol Technologies alliance known as WECA. Later, it changed its name to Wi-Fi Alliance and its objective was to foment the technology via radio, meaning wireless, and also ensure the safety among equipments.

After that, in 2000, the company WECA started certifying its equipments with the IEEE 802.11b standards; this law was made to substitute MAC’s physical layers of transmission through Ethernet, due to the fact that communication of data through Ethernet is not much different to the wireless one, only in the packages it sends, the Wi-Fi trademark guarantees communications between equipments with certifications and norms established by Wi-Fi, this counts with different equipments, because since 2000 until now, they have a great list of production.

The devices used to connect Wi-Fi elements are the routers, access points, receptor cards, PCI cards and also USB.
