Germany is currently one of the few countries in the world to have a notorious economic growth and a low unemployment rate.
Thus, it has become the preferred destination for hundreds of immigrants from around the world.

According to a paper published by the Institute for Employment Research in Nuremberg, by 2010 Germany will need to add 800,000 immigrant workers, with education and skills, to its labor force in the industrial and management sectors. In the next paragraphs, we will give some important advice to foreign citizens who want to work in Germany.

The main requirement for immigrants interested in working in Germany is to have at least and intermediate level of German, its official language. They must not make the mistake of thinking that fluency in English Is enough to find a job in Germany; in fact, that is not the case. Now then, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, a B1 (basic) and B2 (intermediate) level is required in Germany. Thus, before traveling to Germany, we recommend to study its language.

Currently, Germany has a strong demand for skilled workers, meaning experienced or specialized professionals. The most required ones in this country are in health, engineering, tourism and teaching. However, Germany has job opportunities for all careers. But, skilled professional immigrants have the most chances to get a job and thus a work permit.

It is important to mention that an immigrant can work in Germany only if no German citizen is willing to do that work. For immigrants to get a work permit in Germany they must get a job in this country and the hiring company must register them in the Employment Agency.

To find out the existing job opportunities in Germany, immigrants must visit the Federal Employment Agency website (http://www.arbeitsagentur.de/). They can also find job offers in the many agencies which are authorized by the Federal Employment Agency. Also, before travelling to Germany, we recommend immigrants contact one of the 850 EURES counselors in the job mobility website. In order to do that, they must visit http://ec.europa.eu/ , where they will also find many job opportunities, living cost budgets and information about work conditions in Germany.

German immigration source :

Foreign citizens from Latin America, Africa and Asia who want to immigrate to Germany legally must apply for a visa, residence permit or work permit.

Only citizens from countries in the European Union, Norway, Iceland and the Principality of Liechtenstein do not need a visa to immigrate into German territory. Citizens from Canada, the United States, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland and Israel do not need to apply for any permit if they want to travel and live in Germany for a maximum of three months.

In the next lines we will provide information about application procedures for a German visa and immigrating legally to this country. We must say that existing immigration regulations are rather confusing, so we will also refer to the legal aspects of immigration.

In the first place, all foreign citizens interested in immigrating to German territory must start their visa application well beforehand, because procedures last longer than usual. Visas must be requested in the immigrant’s home country, at least six weeks before the planned travel date.

It is necessary to be very careful when choosing which visa to apply for, as residence benefits depend on the requested visa. For instance, there are tourist visa, student visa, work visa, etc.

It is worth mentioning that foreign citizens must apply for a residence permit once they are settled in German territory. This permit is granted depending on the type of visa. Thus, the reason given for applying for a German visa cannot be changed once the immigrant has arrived in Germany. If immigrants want to change their residence status, they must leave Germany and apply for a new visa.

Now then, all immigrants must submit these documents to apply for a German visa:

- Valid passport, with a blank page for the German visa.
- Application form, which varies according to the immigrant’s nationality.
- 2 passport-size photographs
- Proof that immigrants have sufficient funds to get by during their stay in Germany.
- Proof that visa applicants have a health insurance.
- Proof of the real reason for travelling to Germany, for instance: hotel bookings, round trip tickets, etc.
- If immigrants apply for a student or work visa, a letter written by the school, university or company must be presented.

When immigrants arrive into German territory, they must first register their address in the local resident registration office (Einwohnermeldeamt in German). If immigrants decide to stay in Germany for longer than three months, they must apply for a residence permit in the local foreigners’ registration office (Ausländeramt in German). If immigrants want to work in Germany, they must apply for a work authorization with the local employment office (Arbeitsamt in German).

Finally, we recommend foreign citizens immigrating to Germany not forget to take originals and copies of these documents: birth certificates, health insurance, secondary school degree or other academic degrees, international driving licenses and vaccination registries.

Getting a work permit in Germany :

Germany is one of the strictest countries regarding immigration laws. So, foreign citizens who want to immigrate and work in German territory must know that they need a work permit. Citizens from any country within the European Union are the only ones that do not need to apply for those permits.

Now then, for immigrants to get a work permit in Germany, they must first get a resident permit. Also, immigrants must get a job in Germany to be able to apply for a work permit. Then, the company that hires immigrants must register them in Germany’s Employment Agency, and submit a letter or work contract to immigration authorities.

We must say that immigrants might get a job and have the support of a prospective employer, but that does not guarantee they will get the work permits they long for. For this reason, we recommend immigrants get a work contract from a company located in German territory and get a work permit before they travel to Germany.

Work permits in Germany are issued by immigration authorities, not by employment agencies or other authorities there. Sometimes, before granting work permits, the appropriate authorities must approve a residence permit and some national employment agency’s permit.

Immigrants travelling to Germany to study, but who find a qualified job during their stay, do not need to apply for a work permit, because laws indicate that student immigrants can work in German territory for up to 90 days. But, local authorities will define the amount of hours that immigrants should study the German language (60 hours) and history, geography and society courses (30 hours).

About work permits in Germany, we must say that they vary according to the kind of work immigrants will do, for instance: unqualified work permit, qualified work permit, highly qualified work permit and independent work permit.

It is not a good idea to travel and work illegally in Germany, because, as in any developed country, there is a risk of being abused by bosses or being caught by immigration authorities and being deported. Remember illegal workers are not protected by their rights, meaning they can work without being paid at all.

Finally, there is a problem in many Latin American countries regarding swindlers who offer counseling services for work permit applications in Germany. Most of these unscrupulous people only want to recruit women for prostitution.

For that reason, we advise foreign citizens interested in immigrating and working in Germany to not provide any personal information, let alone documents, to any intermediaries, especially if they do not know the German language.

Currently, Germany experiences an almost 4% economic growth, and so there is a need of adding 800,000 qualified immigrants to its labor market. In this article, we will provide information about the most wanted professionals in the country.

Among the most sought professionals in Germany, probably in the next ten years, there are those related to engineering and telecommunications.
Last year, at the end of 2010, Klaus Zimmerman, president of the German Institute for Economic Research, informed that Germany needs to hire thousands of qualified immigrants for its economy to keep on growing.

Qualified immigrant professionals with the most chances of getting work in Germany are related to these fields: health, engineering, tourism and education. Many of the job positions in the German work market that must be filled by professionals are in industry and management.

Immigrants with management studies have the most chances of working in German territory, not only because they are much demanded, but also because they fit the professional profile required in several positions inside a company or organization. Most managers work as financial counselors, banking officials, etc.

As is well known, Germany is an industrialized country, so it constantly requires civil, industrial, chemical, computer and mechanical engineers to keep up its economy. In recent years, telecommunications engineers, computer analysts and graphics designers have been needed too.

In the health sector, doctors, nurses and dentists are the most sought professionals. Among doctors, the most wanted are specialists such as gynecologists, oncologists, otorhinolaryngologists, hematologists, endocrinologists, etc. Among nurses, the most sought and best paid are geriatric nurses and those with rehabilitation training.

In education, Germany needs to hire pre-school, primary and secondary teachers, especially with science studies. Also, hundreds of professors are needed for positions in universities. To fill those vacancies, faculty must be fluent in German, so most immigrants are not able fill those vacancies.

According to official data, other wanted professionals in Germany are economists, financial advisors, hotel and tourism managers, as well as professionals in logistics and transportation, electricity technicians, welders, mechanics, carpenters, painters, etc.

Highly qualified workers (teachers, scientists or specialized professionals) can be paid over 83,700 dollars a year.

Finally, lawyers, accountants, journalists and writers are the least likely to get a job. On the one hand, lawyers and accountants need to know German laws very well; on the other hand, journalists and writers need to be fluent in German to perform better.

To look for a job in Germany, the most effective way is the internet career websites. Thus, those interested in immigrating to work in that country should look up the information provided by those online job sites.

Next, we give you information about internet career websites, where several job offers in Germany can be found. We must say that most of these pages are in German, so it is essential to know that language; otherwise, immigrating to another country should be considered.

In the first place, we recommend visiting the Eures webpage, a European job mobility site (http://ec.europa.eu/eures). It has job offers from every European country, Germany among them. To access the information within, users must register so they can apply to the different work opportunities. Bear in mind that this website is among the few most preferred ones by companies looking for personnel.

In the second place, we recommend the Job Monitor webpage (http://www.jobmonitor.com/). It is among the most visited sites by users. Its information about job offers is sorted by geographical areas and occupation. Here users can find over 267,984 job opportunities in Germany. Additionally, many registered companies let interested people upload their resumes or email them to a designated address.

In the third place, we must mention the Job Pilot webpage (http://jobpilot.de/). It also is among the most visited pages by people interested in working in Europe. It has updated information about job vacancies in Germany and other European places. Also, it provides information about profiles of companies that post their personnel needs, and advises users about making a good resume.

Another recommended career website is Learn 4 Good (http://www.learn4good.com/ ). It has job offers from many countries. Thus, users must choose country, city and profession that fit their job search. After this selection, they will get a list with all available jobs as of the time of the search.

We must also mention the Zeit career website (http://jobs.zeit.de/), which has thousands of job proposals in Germany. Job positions in this site must be selected according to profession. It is worth mentioning that the most demanded job are in health sciences, media, finance, management, engineering, education, psychology, among others.

Also, we must mention the online Job World career website (http://www.jobworld.de/). Over 300,000 job offers in Germany can be browsed there. Job search can be sorted according on the German city where the user wants to work.

Finally, we recommend those interested in working temporarily in Germany visit the best known employment agencies in Germany. For example:

Also remember to check up job listings in the most important printed media in Germany. For instance:

- Zitty (http://kleinanzeigen.zitty.de/)
- Exberliner (http://exbclassifieds.exberliner.net)
- Tipp (http://service.tip-berlin.de/ )

This is due to that, in 2005, Germany passed a new immigration law that favors skilled workers from around the world. This means that those migrants and experienced professionals in this country can find a range of opportunities for professional growth and employment.

That said, we must say that the great advantages of emigrating to Germany to work is that it is a country with its economy growing 3.9% and a low unemployment rate (7%). Therefore, those who migrate to this country will be one of the powerful G8 countries and one of the three largest economies in the world.

Many Latin American and Spanish-speaking citizens have the dream of emigrating to Europe and Germany gives huge advantages, except as difficult it is to learn their language, which prevents deal appropriately with Germany. However, Germany, this requires integration of its labor market to immigrants 800.000 professionals. It is this reality that is necessary for skilled workers wishing to migrate to a developed country like Germany begin to prepare and learn the language.

Another advantage offered by Germany to migrants is that it is a country with a high rate of aging. According to the president of the German Institute of Economy, Klaus Zimmerman, due to the increasing aging that exists in this country since 2015, Germany began to lose every year, about 250,000 workers, making it necessary to recruit qualified staff from other countries.

Also, another advantage offered by Germany is that, in recent years has become the third country in the world with more immigrants, which means it is a multicultural nation. Of course, it must be remembered that the Germans are very different from Latin America, there are warm and kind, but rather rigid.

However, are tolerant to migrants, given that people concerned with education.
In fact, currently dominated by a large number of Spanish in Germany, who have managed to grow professionally through the hospitality of the Germans.

Finally, we must say that the German government is in favor of thousands of young immigrants access to high quality education that this country offers. This is so very beneficial for foreign professionals to migrate to Germany for graduate studies, among others. Do not think more, learn the German language and travel to this country to get the opportunities of your dreams.
